In your prelicensure nursing education program, what did you learn about quality improvement in nursing? How was quality improvement emphasized? As you consider nursing education today, what would you suggest be included in future education or orientation programs about the important topic of quality improvement in nursing?
“It is essential that nurses be taught a systematic process of defining problems, identifying potential causes of those problems, and methods for testing possible solutions to improve care” (Johnson, 2012, p. 113).
Quality improvement is an essential component of nursing. For nurses to be comfortable with quality improvement and proactive in their approach to care issues, there must a focus on quality improvement in nursing education. Please share with us what you were taught about quality improvement in your prelicensure nursing program. Also, please share your ideas about how the topic of quality improvement should be incorporated in future prelicensure nursing education and orientation programs.
I look forward to your input this week!
